Pluto Cazimi January 23, 2026: Death, Rebirth, and Deep Power in Your Body

Today, Something Dies So Something Else Can Be Born

Right now—January 23, 2026 at 2:27 AM PST (5:27 AM EST)—Pluto sits at the exact heart of the Sun at 3°25' Aquarius.

This is called a cazimi. When a planet is within 17 minutes of arc of the Sun's exact center, it's "in the heart of the Sun"—amplified, purified, reborn.

And this isn't just any planet. This is Pluto—lord of the underworld, planet of death and transformation, the cosmic colonic that clears away everything rotting beneath the surface.

Pluto cazimis happen once a year. But this one is different. This is Pluto's first cazimi in Aquarius since it entered the sign in 2024, marking the beginning of a 20-year transformation of collective power, technology, and revolution.

As a somatic therapist who works with deep transformation, I want to help you understand what's happening in your body today, how to work with this intense energy, and what it means for your personal and collective evolution.

What Is a Pluto Cazimi (And Why Does It Feel Like This)?

Cazimi is an Arabic term meaning "in the heart." When a planet is cazimi, it's:

  • Purified by the Sun's light

  • Given new life and vitality

  • Empowered to express its highest potential

  • Reborn with clarity and purpose

Pluto governs:

  • Death, rebirth, transformation

  • Power (reclaimed or abused)

  • What's hidden in the shadows

  • Deep psychological material

  • Elimination of what no longer serves

  • The underworld—literal and metaphorical

According to astrologer Belinda Matwali, "Pluto is associated with depth, getting to the bottom of something, and clearing out. Sometimes it's even referred to as the colonic of the universe, as it comes and cleans away anything that is old, rotting, and no longer needed."

When Pluto is cazimi with the Sun, we have a three-day period with this energy. It's like a mini Easter—a time of death and rebirth.

Girl and Her Moon describes it as "a rare moment of deep renewal that resets collective power, consciousness, and future pathways."

What This Feels Like in Your Body Right Now

If you woke up today feeling heavy, intense, confrontational, or like something has to shift NOW—that's Pluto.

Physical sensations you might notice:

  • Deep fatigue or exhaustion (something is dying/releasing)

  • Intensity in your gut or pelvis (Pluto rules elimination, literally and metaphorically)

  • Restlessness or agitation (transformation wants to move)

  • Sudden clarity about what needs to end

  • Dreams that were vivid, dark, or revealing

Emotional/psychological experiences:

  • Confronting something you've been avoiding

  • Power struggles (internal or external)

  • Desire to purge, release, let go

  • Compulsion to get to the bottom of something

  • Feeling like you can't pretend anymore

This is your body processing transformation at a cellular level.

Astrologer Jessica Davidson notes that this cazimi can feel "intense with the added energy coming from Pluto" and may involve "letting go of old structures and reforming or transforming your approach."

Why This Pluto Cazimi Is Especially Powerful

1. It's Pluto's First Cazimi in Aquarius

Pluto will be in Aquarius from 2024-2044, transforming:

  • Technology and AI

  • Collective power structures

  • Revolution and social change

  • How we relate to community

  • What "humanity" means

This cazimi is the first activation of that 20-year journey—a cosmic download about the power you're here to reclaim and wield for collective transformation.

2. Mars Joins Pluto on January 27

In just four days, Mars (action, will, drive) conjoins Pluto in Aquarius. This amplifies the transformational force—asking you to take action on what today's cazimi reveals.

Girl and Her Moon describes this as "transformational force surges, asking for conscious engagement with power, will, and change."

3. It Follows the Capricorn New Moon (Jan 18)

You just set intentions under the Capricorn new moon. Today's Pluto cazimi asks: What needs to die for those intentions to have space to grow?

4. Neptune Enters Aries on January 26

Three days after this cazimi, Neptune leaves Pisces (where it's been since 2011) and enters Aries—beginning a new spiritual era focused on courage, action, and pioneering vision.

This week is a massive threshold moment. Death → Rebirth → New spiritual direction.

What Pluto Cazimi Asks of You Today

According to Grand Trine Astrology, "Pluto cazimis occur once a year and tend to affect the practical realities of daily life. This can be an intense day, prompting you to repair something, confront an issue directly, or take a closer look at a lingering concern."

Today asks:

  • What are you ready to let die?

  • What power have you been giving away?

  • What's rotting beneath the surface that needs elimination?

  • What truth can you no longer avoid?

  • Where do you need to reclaim your authority?

This is not a "manifest your dreams" day. This is a "face your shadow and compost what's dead" day.

Somatic Practices for Pluto Cazimi

Pluto works through the body—especially the gut, pelvis, and elimination systems. Here's how to work with this energy somatically:

Practice 1: Grounding Through Elimination

Pluto literally rules elimination. Today, support your body's natural detox:

Physical:

  • Drink water (flush your system)

  • Move your bowels (seriously—elimination on all levels)

  • Sweat (exercise, sauna, hot bath)

  • Release breath fully (long exhales)

Why this works: You're helping your body do what Pluto does metaphorically—eliminate what's no longer needed.

Practice 2: The Pelvic Bowl Release

Pluto's energy often gets stuck in the pelvis—where we hold power, sexuality, creativity, and deep emotion.

How to do it:

  1. Lie on your back, knees bent, feet flat

  2. Place hands on your lower belly/pelvic bowl

  3. Breathe deeply into your hands for 2 minutes

  4. Notice: Is there tension? Numbness? Heat?

  5. Imagine breathing out anything stuck there—old power dynamics, shame, fear, stagnant energy

  6. Let your pelvis rock gently side to side, releasing

Why this works: You're literally moving stuck Plutonian energy out of your body.

Practice 3: Shaking for Transformation

When transformation is happening, your nervous system needs to discharge.

How to do it:

  1. Stand with feet hip-width apart

  2. Shake your whole body vigorously for 3-5 minutes

  3. Let it be messy, uncontrolled, wild

  4. Let sounds come out if they want to

  5. Notice how you feel after

Why this works: Shaking discharges cortisol and helps complete transformation cycles your body has been holding.

Practice 4: The Death Meditation

Pluto asks us to face death—not morbidly, but as a tool for clarity.

How to do it:

  1. Sit quietly with eyes closed

  2. Imagine you have one year left to live

  3. Ask yourself:

    • What would I stop doing immediately?

    • What would I finally say or do?

    • What grudges would I release?

    • What risks would I take?

  4. Write down what comes up

Why this works: Death clarifies what actually matters. Pluto gives you that clarity today.

Pluto Cazimi Ritual: Death and Rebirth

What you'll need:

  • Two pieces of paper

  • Pen

  • Something to safely burn paper in (cauldron, fireplace, or bowl)

  • Candle

  • 30 minutes

The Ritual:

Part 1: What Dies (10 min)

On the first paper, write everything ready to die:

  • Relationships that drain you

  • Beliefs that limit you

  • Patterns that keep you stuck

  • Parts of your identity you've outgrown

  • Power you've been giving away

  • Shame you're ready to release

Don't censor. Let it pour out.

Part 2: Burn It (Literally) (5 min)

Light your candle. Read your list aloud—this witnesses what's dying.

Then safely burn the paper.

As it burns, say: "I release this. It no longer has power over me. I reclaim my energy from what has died."

Watch it turn to ash. This is Pluto's work—transformation through fire.

Part 3: What's Reborn (10 min)

On the second paper, write what emerges from the ashes:

  • The power you're reclaiming

  • The truth you're ready to speak

  • The version of yourself being born

  • The life you're ready to live

  • The boundaries you're setting

  • The authority you're claiming

Part 4: Seal It (5 min)

Hold the second paper to your heart. Say:

"From death comes rebirth. From ashes, new life. I claim my power. I honor this transformation. I trust the process of death and renewal."

Place this paper on your altar, under your pillow, or somewhere you'll see it.

Art Therapy Practice: Shadow Work Collage

What you'll need:

  • Magazines or printed images

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • Large paper

  • 30 minutes

The practice:

  1. Find images that represent your shadow—the parts of you you've rejected, hidden, or denied. Rage, grief, power, sexuality, darkness.

  2. Create a collage that gives your shadow form. Don't make it pretty—make it honest.

  3. Add images of what emerges when you integrate your shadow—wholeness, power, authenticity.

  4. Journal: What does my shadow have to teach me? What power am I ready to reclaim?

Pluto Cazimi Journal Prompts

  • What am I pretending not to know that I actually know?

  • What power have I been giving away—and to whom?

  • What needs to die for me to live more fully?

  • What am I ready to stop tolerating?

  • Where have I been playing small to make others comfortable?

  • What would I do if I truly owned my power?

  • What transformation is my body asking for?

What to Avoid Today

Grand Trine Astrology warns: "If possible, avoid power struggles and ego-driven conflicts. It is also wise to stay away from risky environments on this day."

Don't:

  • Make major decisions in the heat of emotion (wait 48 hours)

  • Engage in power struggles (Pluto will escalate them)

  • Avoid the truth (it will find you anyway)

  • Repress what's coming up (it needs expression)

Do:

  • Face what's asking to be faced

  • Reclaim your power quietly and internally first

  • Let things die that need to

  • Trust the transformation process

When Pluto Cazimi Needs Therapeutic Support

Pluto transits and cazimis can surface:

  • Deep trauma or shadow material

  • Power dynamics from childhood

  • Grief or loss you haven't processed

  • Rage you've been repressing

  • Shame that's been buried

Seek support if:

  • You're overwhelmed by what's surfacing

  • Old trauma is activated

  • You're in an abusive power dynamic

  • Suicidal thoughts arise (call 988 immediately)

  • You need help integrating what's being revealed

Therapeutic approaches for Pluto work:

  • Somatic therapy: Releases what's held in the body

  • EMDR: Processes traumatic material

  • IFS (Parts work): Integrates shadow parts

  • Jungian therapy: Works with shadow directly

  • Art therapy: Gives shadow form and expression

You're Being Reborn—Trust the Process

Pluto doesn't ask permission. It doesn't wait until you're ready. It comes when it's time, tears down what's rotting, and forces rebirth.

Today—in the heart of the Sun—Pluto is giving you the power to consciously participate in your own transformation.

What needs to die is already dying. What needs to be born is already emerging.

Your only job is to get out of the way and let the alchemy happen.

This isn't comfortable. Pluto never is. But it's necessary. And on the other side? Power. Authenticity. Truth. The version of you that's been waiting beneath all the layers you've outgrown.

Trust the death. Trust the rebirth. Trust your power.
